About the Creator
Nyingv Jae Saechao is a multifaceted indigenous Khmu and Iu Mien interdisciplinary artist, storyteller, cultural worker and community educator. Their work centers hidden histories, inherently challenging what is typically seen as worthy of cultural preservation in turn pushing back against rigid ideas of authenticity and embracing intergenerational, diasporic ways of knowing and being. Through writing, visual art, and creative spiritual practice they merge collective memory, dreamt futures and ancestral prayers. Their art and writing have been celebrated as foundational to shaping the future of the communities they are part of – blending traditional and contemporary cultural wisdom, language, and practices while grappling with issues that are often seen as taboo, such as gender, spiritual and body autonomy, sexuality, ancestral healing and much more, from an indigenous, feminist, and liberatory community-centered lens.
