For Those Sown Amongst Thorns is a title informed by the parable of Christ, in which he refers to “someone who hears the word of God, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.” In this work, McBride uses a myriad of photographic techniques: tableau vivant, studio portraiture and still-life combinations to explore the motifs of a controversial lifestyle that exists at the intersection of contemporary rap music, American gunphilia and an engrained Christian sentimentality.
