About the Book
The images in Wonder Dread — which exist both in this book and as a series of metal prints shown on the wall — were created in late 2025/early 2026. They are inspired in part by Clay Shirky’s book Cognitive Surplus, and especially a key concept in its first chapter — that of 18th century Londoners using excessive amounts of gin to deal with their stress and confusion over the changes brought on by the Industrial Revolution. The series explores how the disruption of that era resonates with what we’re going through in the early 21st century.
