    About the Book

    Edit

"Fire and Salt" is a collection of stark black and white photographs made on O‘ahu and the Big Island. Shot in the photographic technique of "Are Bure Boke", the images lean into grain, blur, and texture to capture the islands at their most untamed. Instead of postcard colors, this book focuses on rain, wind, lava fields, and the awe-inspiring presence of rough ancient landscapes. The result is a portrait of the islands that feels raw, alive, and unpolished.

He is interested in how a sequence of images can create its own narrative space, offering enough clarity to guide the viewer while leaving room for personal interpretation. His photographs often cross into the mysterious: subtle gestures, charged stillness, and moments that feel slightly veiled without becoming obscure.
