    About the Book

    Edit

In Walking the Camino, The Wannabe Naturalist followed the Portuguese routes to Santiago de Compostela—through coastal winds, ancient towns, and moments of reflection along the way. What began as a physical challenge became something more personal.
This journey was not only a pilgrimage, but part of a deeper exploration—one that continues to unfold in the stories he is writing.
Because sometimes, the road we walk becomes the story we tell.
Over twelve days and more than 400,000 steps, he navigated coastal winds, questionable “easy” routes, mysterious egg dishes, and the occasional slippery moss incident. Along the way, he met pilgrims, shared stories, and confirmed at least one universal truth: take care of your feet.
This photo book captures the journey in all its honesty—rain, wine, wrong turns, and all.
And yes… he really did walk the whole thing.

    Twelve days.
    Over 100 miles.
    One quiet journey across Galicia.

In Walking the Camino, The Wannabe Naturalist followed the Portuguese routes to Santiago de Compostela—through coastal winds, ancient towns, and moments of reflection that stayed long after the journey ended.

Along the way, something unexpected happened. The road began to shape not only the experience, but the stories he was writing—stories that continue in the Coming-of-Age historical fiction novel Diamonds and Desperation.

    Part pilgrimage.
    Part exploration.
    Part story in the making.

Because sometimes, the journey doesn’t end when you arrive. It simply finds a new way forward.

    The Wannabe Naturalist®
    Charlotte, NC

Feeding my curiosity for history and my interest in photography, I further developed my love of the natural world that has since become the primary focus of my life. My goal is to use photography to bring history to life. I will give you a sense of understanding history and hopefully bring the stories to life! Viewing the landscape, historical markers and wildlife will help me share with you the fascination I feel when delving into the past. EUGENE BRILL is a nature and landscape photographer. I’m a dedicated naturalist volunteer, as well as an avid gardener, and photographer. I do not speak in taxonomic groupings, species and genera, but can communicate clearly with “Joe Public” in language everyone understands. I love to share knowledge and my photography, and I believe Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD) is real, agree that “forest bathing” (fully clothed, of course . . .) makes us happier, healthier, and more creative.
