About the Book
What Makes This Book Unique
Much of what makes this book different grew out of what I have learned over many years of teaching children judo, working with their parents, and developing Sensei.
The illustrations in this book began as real photographs I took during judo instruction. The students' grips, foot positions, movements, and safe practice were kept the same, while the photographs were changed into illustrations to make the lessons easier for children and parents to follow.
I developed the Student, Parent, and Sensei boxes as a practical way to help all three learning partners understand the same judo lesson from their own point of view. The guidance in each box comes from my years of teaching children, working with parents, and developing Sensei. I created the three-box format to make each lesson easier to understand, discuss, and reinforce both in the dojo and at home.
Together, the illustrations and the three-box format are intended to make each lesson clearer, more useful, and easier for children, parents, and Sensei to share.
