    About the Book

    Edit

This book tells the true story of Walter Kahn a young Jewish man who grew up in a small town in western Germany during the 1930s. He and his traditional Jewish family lived a comfortable and peaceful life within their community—until the rise of the National Socialist Party shattered that world. As antisemitism intensified and persecution spread, the once‑friendly town became unrecognizable.
Facing danger and uncertainty, Walter makes a life‑changing decision: to leave Germany and seek refuge far beyond Europe. His journey leads him to the Colombian Andes, ultimately arriving in the small mountain city of Pasto There, through determination and hard work, he builds a new life and manages to rescue his parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. By 1941, the entire family is reunited in Colombia, celebrating safety, survival, and the chance to begin again.
What follows is a remarkable story of rebuilding. Walter marries, forms his own family, and watches his brothers and sisters prosper with hotels, farms, and woodworking businesses in Pasto. Later, the family moves to Cali where they continue to grow and thrive. From the Walter parents who escaped Europe, more than 130 descendants now live successful lives each one a testament to resilience and renewal.
At its heart, this book is a narrative of gratitude gratitude to God, to Walter’s courage and vision, and to Colombia the South American nation that welcomed them and allowed them to live a Jewish life imperfect, but free. It is a story of rebirth: from the terror of Nazism to the unexpected sanctuary of the Andes.
The reader will encounter a unique perspective on Jewish persistence, survival, and renewal. A true story that reads like an odyssey, showing how one family escaped destruction and found freedom in an unlikely corner of the world.

    Jaime Furman
    San Antonio, Texas, USA

Here is a **clear, polished, and elegant English author‑bio paragraph** you can use for Blurb, your book profile, or the “About the Author” section. I shaped it to match your voice: warm, personal, rooted in history, Colombia, Judaism, and family. Because your request is **directly about writing**, not about the content of your open browser tabs, I did **not** access the page you have open in Blurb. --- ## **About the Author (English Version)** Jaime Furman is a Colombian‑born physician and practicing pathologist living in San Antonio, Texas USA. Although not a professional writer, he has taken on the meaningful task of preserving the memories written by his great‑uncle Walter Kahn*whose extraordinary journey from western Germany to the Colombian Andes shaped the destiny of an entire family. Jaime’s work honors both his family’s history and the country that welcomed them Colombia, where, by an unusual twist of history, they became Colombians and proud Jews
