      About the Book

      Edit

76 miles separate the Pacific Ocean from the Caribbean. Separating the West from the East is part of the great Andean-Sierra Madre mountains with 7 active volcanoes and the highest point at over 12,000 feet. It runs the entire length of the country, from Nicaragua to Panama. It is these mountains, shrouded in cloud and rain forests, that bring water to the lowlands creating varied habitat for plants, trees, and wildlife. Twelve major rivers carve dramatic valleys through 12 life zones, from the high mountains to the sunny beaches. The Osa Peninsula is so abundant with unique flora and fauna that National Geographic calls it "the most biologically intense place on Earth." This is Costa Rica!

Recognized as a prominent wildlife photographer, Jim Stamates has been creating photographic images for more than 35 years. Since 1980, he has focused his talents on the photography and preservation of our natural surroundings. Dedicated to the proper and ethical behavior toward nature, Jim champions his “low impact field techniques” through his In The Rhythm™ lectures and workshops that emphasize the well being of the subject. Jim has been highly commended by the Natural History Museum, London, England through the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition.
