About the Book
Dating back to 1725, Tanfield Railway, in County Durham, North East England, is the world’s oldest surviving steam railway.
Although most popular for its collection of restored locomotives and rolling stock that steam regularly throughout the year, it is the sidings, home to rows of rusting engines, carriages and associated detritus hoping for the lifeline of restoration, that have fascinated me for as long as I can remember.
Living less than a mile from the railway has allowed me to explore the sidings at my leisure and search out the beauty continually emerging from the decay. This book is a collection of the photographs I have taken during these visits.
