      About the Ebook

This volume is a journey through a number of ethereal landscapes, some exotic, others more intimate and closer to home.

Storm Dogs, Dawn in Kuching, DayGlo Brooms and In the Rainforest form a record of a visit to Borneo in Summer 2010. For the Kuching series, I wanted to inhabit that quiet time as the city awakes. Street cats were out hunting, pensioners were performing tai chi in the first rays of the sun. Somehow I felt closer to the spirit of the place when capturing it unawares, on the brink of the working day.

Spring Meander comprises landscape images from Dorset, Dartmoor and the Cornish coast around St. Just. The series explores rock formations and the dynamics of water flow in river valleys and along the coast, observed using infrared and long time exposures.

Snowflakes in Suburbia is a selection of images taken during a "white out" in Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany, over Christmas 2009. Many of the pictures are taken at dusk using fill in flash and a slow shutter, to capture the signage of suburban Germany against the icy blue winter light.

Messages from the Edge of the World explores the rugged north west of the British Isles. The images of Helvellan in Cumbria employ a sepia based tonal palette in response to the timeless grandeur of the mountainscapes.

Men in Hats is a record of a seven day trek through the Annapurna in Nepal, starting from Jomson, then returning to Kathmandu. As in Kuching, I wanted to capture the extraordinary warmth and generosity of the people living in the villages along the route.

At Home is the continuation of an ongoing series. These "landscapes" are still lives in miniature, built from mundane everyday objects scattered around the house.

Walking to Salthouse draws together images from the Norfolk coast and broads, with a focus on intimate forms and structures, set against the typical marshland landscapes.
