About the Book
April Vollmer is a New York artist who specializes in Japanese woodblock. She earned an MFA in printmaking from Hunter College in 1983, and learned Japanese woodblock after she established her own studio. She combines contemporary and traditional ways of working, using the computer as well as traditional Japanese tools. She has taught and lectured on woodblock since 1995. Each year she demonstrates traditional Japanese printing at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Cherry Blossom Festival. In 2007 she had a major exhibition at the Steinhardt Gallery there. Her prints have been exhibited at the Phillips Museum of Art, Silicon Gallery, AIR Gallery, the Islip Art Museum, Henry Street Settlement, and many other locations.
