About the Book
A social history of vice in Portland, Oregon. Charting the little spoken about problem that Portlanders have dealt with for over a hundred years. Taking an in depth look at the 1913 Portland Vice Commission Report and the 1950's Senate Hearings on the Portland Vice Scandal. Many newspaper clippings and photographs.
Originally from Great Britain, I came to Oregon, married an Oregonian and now have three lovely boys. Photography has been an interest of mine for over twenty years. Besides Oregon I have many photographs taken throughout my travels around the world. I have been very lucky in this respect and even luckier in that I have been able to capture moments and images of many beautiful places - Carol Munro Recollections of Sierra Leone came about as I was looking through all my recently digitized slides that my father took in the 1970's. The photographs seemed to be original and fairly rare so I thought other people might also enjoy seeing them in a beautiful book. Who Knew? Stench in the City of Roses is the result of about six years research, writing and editing. It looks at vice in Portland, Oregon from about 1900 to 1970. A fun read and an eye opener for anyone interested in another fascinating facet of Oregon history. Many photos included!
