About the Book
This is a memoir through letters from me, a migrant child of the fifties, to my girlfriend Willie. It deals with my emigration from Holland to South Africa and my journey through puberty whilst at boarding school. It then follows my career in becoming a Springbok trampolinist in the sixties. As an adult I again emigrate, to escape the growing violence in South Africa, this time to Australia, with my own family, where I fulfil my dreams of becoming an artist.
Willie kept all the letters and thus became the keeper of our memories. The letters have been translated by me from the original Dutch, keeping the vernacular of the child and not allowing the adult to creep in.
