The book starts with vintage carousel figures and then to the colorful art that covers the rides and walls at fairs and continues on to parades with floats, people and costumes.



This book is the result of a self-assigned project. I wanted to document this art which so captivated my mind and mesmerized me as a child; and continues to provide the thrills and spills that help keep my imagination the driving force of my art. I’ve been photographing fairs, carnivals and parades for the past 10 years.



I first started photographing these images with my little point and shoot Leica using transparency film, then creating Polaroid transfers using a combination of chemicals and heat to enhance color saturation on archival watercolor paper. I then scanned the original transfers and saved them as Photoshop files. In the past couple of years, due to Polaroid discontinuing its instant films, I’ve photographed some of the later images with my Nikon D80.
