About the Book
In 2011, the Richmond Art Center (also known as RAC and located in Richmond, California) had a two part exhibit titled "Beyond Tradition: Art Legacies at the Richmond Art Center". Anthony Pinata, then RAC Facilities Manager and Exhibitions Assistant, curated the first part, and with the help of then RAC Exhibitions Director Emily Anderson, co-curated the second iteration. The exhibits highlighted 110 artists who exhibited at or were affiliated with the center from the 1950s to the early 2000s. This exhibit catalogue contains not only images of the exhibit, but also testimonials by the participating artists, former curators, and introductory statements by legendary curator Peter Selz and Richmond-based artist John Wehrle. The latter part of the book has a selected list of RAC exhibits from 1951 to 2010 which gives a window into yesteryear when many now famous Bay Area artists frequently participated in exhibits.
