About the Book
In 'Mark on the Body', Margaret Blank chronicles her journey with her husband Howard and their family as they experienced first-hand the impact of living with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes -- particularly the last ten years of Howard's life. After his death in 2006, Margaret -- an emerging textile artist -- moved to rural Alberta to heal, to explore the next phase of her life, and delve into her art. Out of Margaret's early years as a widow came a three-section installation, Mark on the Body, created to honour those living with T1D. Her hope is that her stitched marks will raise public awareness about Type 1 Diabetes, the challenges faced by those living with and around it, and the need for funding to find a cure.
