About the Book
Large format black and white portraits of the people who live and work around Makasutu, a sacred forest in the West African Republic of The Gambia. The portraits were made on twelve trips over the past thirteen years.

I am a freelance photographer based in NYC, but work internationally for publications including : Aperture, Virginia Quarterly Review, The New Yorker, Outside, Men's Journal,New York Times, London Times. I have exhibited my work in a number of solo shows in NYC and my work from Afghanistan is in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art. I have worked on assignment in Afghanistan, Iraq,Pakistan,The Gambia,DR Congo, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti,Libya,Cuba, Syria,Lebanon,China, Brazil, Suriname ........and always looking forward to getting to new spots
