The exhibition of this collection was up at The Actors Theater of Louisville in March of 2018, and marked the final months of Les Waters’ journey through this theater as Artistic Director. Along with the entire staff at ATL, Les always aimed to bring out the best in the guest artists. Because of their support and collaboration, the community received a fresh vision of honest theater.
Suddenly Overwhelmed captures the feeling I get when I am willingly plucked from the reality of life, and put into a creativity incubator such as Actors Theater of Louisville. The life of a theater artist is full of arrivals and departures. Whether for 25 seasons, 5 years, 9 months, or one rehearsal period, the time a person spends in these rehearsal halls, offices, and audiences creates an endless energy source for the place to thrive upon. The gratitude I feel toward Les and all he’s done at ATL is overwhelming but as Merton would say, “…it cannot be explained. There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shining like the sun.”
