The story is told in scraps--diary pages, postcards, matchbooks and bits of clothing--scattered across the surface of dark dreams.

C, the narrator, expects a summer getaway. Instead old lives, those of former tenants of her rented house as well as her own, get in the way. Gossip, secrets, and new opportunities tangle together like brilliant embroidery threads. Her diary records one version of events, but objects around her may suggest another.
