I went to sleep that night and dreamed of the interview. In my dream, the author was veiled or hidden somehow, impossible to see or hear clearly, and Lewis spoke (or translated) his words to me. The next day I opened the book and received a shock that I am almost embarrassed to relate: most of the pages had gone blank. Speciically, the latter portion of the printing had completely disappeared. The pages that once held passages I had underlined retained only my own uneven pencil lines. I can’t explain this; Lewis and everyone else I questioned have assured me that no disappearing ink or other shenanigans were involved.
