Peter Sramek has been a photographic artist since 1970 and has taught at the Ontario College of Art & Design University in Toronto since 1976. His work incorporates photography, digital imaging, handbinding and video installation with a focus on black and white photography which explores the medium's ability to record and represent history and cultural heritage.
Sramek graduated from MIT in Cambridge, where he studied under Minor White. In 1979, he helped found Gallery44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, an artist-run centre and photographic workspace in Toronto. He has exhibited widely and is included in collections such as the National Gallery of Canada, the National Library of Canada, MOMA(NYC), the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Toronto Archives, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Allan Chasanoff Collection of Artist's Books (Yale University).
Sramek's artist-designed books are published and made available under the title, Book°Sequence Projects.
