Univ of Hawaii Dept of Art + Art History

University of Hawaii at Manoa
About

The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa is located in a lush tropical valley within a primarily residential neighborhood of Honolulu. Our campus is the flagship of the ten-campus University of Hawai‘i system, and enrolls about one-third of the system’s over 60,000 students. Our student body is highly diverse and includes international students from Asia, the Pacific, and Europe, as well as students from Hawai’i, Alaska and the continental United States.

The Department of Art + Art History is a comprehensive and diverse center in the Asia/Pacific region for the study of visual art and art history. The department is the only master’s degree-granting program in the visual arts in the Pacific region, and the second largest department on campus, with approximately 400 majors, housed in our own building centrally located on campus.

Areas of Expertise

Comprised of nine areas of specialization the department combines seasoned faculty expertise with state-of-the-art facilities to provide an outstanding locus for undergraduate and graduate study in the visual arts.

The Art History area is unique in the US for its Asia/Pacific focus. Our studio curriculum encompasses traditional media such as engraving and glass blowing as well as contemporary technologies such as sound mixing, digital imaging, and interactive media.
