About

Founded in 1992, African Voices Communications, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the world one story at a time by providing a nurturing space for people to enjoy art, literature and film by artists of color.

African Voices magazine is one of the leading print publications devoted to showcasing literature and art by people of color. Spelman College, the nation's oldest Black women colleges, has acquired the magazine's archives for future generations to enjoy.

In addition to publishing an award-winning literary magazine, African Voices sponsors Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series, the nation's first Oscar qualifying film festival devoted to women of color; AV Readings, Workshops & Performance Series offers literary readings, artistic workshops, professional forums and art exhibitions at our Brooklyn gallery space.
