Creative writing is any written work that goes beyond the boundaries of usual, professional, journalistic, academic, political, or other specialized forms of writing, usually identified by an emphasis on creative literary norms, character development, and an exploration of poetic or multimedia norms. The creative writer's work has an unusual power to effect changes in public opinion or social response because the author often plays with the reader's expectations, suggesting something that the audience is not normally or intentionally expecting. Some examples of the more common creative writing genres are fiction (which includes the categories of romance, comedy, horror, science fiction, action, and comedy) and non-fiction (which includes works in history, sociology, philosophy, business, celebrity affairs, religion, literature, and film). However, some creative writing can also take the form of meditation, fiction (including screenplay
