About the Ebook
Evanescent Trawlers of the South is a photography study of the disappearing beautiful hand crafted wooden Shrimp Fishing Trawlers of the South through a retrospective view. With each week that passes so does another one of these magnificent working vessels that lined the Southern Harbors of the United States for over 100 years. This series of images represents the essence of the challenges, hard life and above all the hidden beauty of the last rare and quickly passing wooden vessels that remain in the industry.
The Evanescent Trawlers project was crowd funded through donations on the Kickstarter Website. The first goal of the project was to capture images of as many of the remaining wooden trawlers on three different trips, hitting as many of the small ports between New Iberia, Louisiana and Georgetown, South Carolina. The second was to produce this book and the 3rd to produce a set of Fine Art Canvas Prints to display at local Galleries in Northeast Florida.
During my travels from Jun-Aug 2013 I covered over 4,650 miles in the summer heat with my old New Beetle without any Air Conditioning, pushing 277,000 miles on the odometer, and shot over 5,600 images, the final 224 images for this project represent over 500 hours of post processing work time.
Prints of some of these images will be on display at the Jacksonville International Airport from Jan-Mar 2014. A gallery of the entire project is online at the below link and prints of any image may be purchased there as well.
