About

As a sculptor and installation artist, Freedom Baird draws from her interdisciplinary background in the performing, visual, and media arts. Originally from New York City, she received an MS in media arts and sciences from MIT’s Media Lab, and an MFA in sculpture/installation from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Baird’s work is centered around the intersection of humans and nature as agents, objects, and constructs, and often involves outdoor installation and participation by visitors. Her recent exhibitions include the Biennial Exhibition at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland, ME, Grounds for Play at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, and Art on the Trails, an outdoor sculpture exhibition at the Catskill Interpretive Center, Mt. Tremper, NY. Baird is a member of the Studios Without Walls sculpture collaborative, and was an artist in residence on the Boston Harbor Islands during the summer of 2018.
