Studies and Ph.D in neurobiology in Geneva, Switzerland, Postdoctorate in Cambridge and Göttingen. Resigned as Director of Research at Centre National de le Recherche Scientifique, France in 1992 to work for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Lives in Basel
