      About the Book

      Edit

This book contains 66 double-page colour photographs. The images describe the topography of Iceland, the surface, shapes, colours, and features of an area. The artist Brynhild Bye-Tiller has traveled across the country several times. In this book, she has tried to find images that, in her mind, represent Iceland. You can see moss-covered lava fields, grey raw contorted basalt columns, blue glacier ice lagoons, spotted moraines ridges, layered hillsides, sulphur deposits, massive waterfalls, red geothermal pools and geysers, deep gorges, beaches with black volcanic sand, and colours like nowhere else. These colour pallets are created by the vulcanic rocks and sub-arctic vegetation, water in various forms, rivers, lakes and glaciers. Pure sulfur create yellow colours. The common basaltic rocks have dark colours from iron and magnesium rich minerals. Oxygen from the atmosphere react with the iron and create red and brown coloured surface minerals.
