    About the Book

    Edit

The first seriously critical reconstruction of what happened in the last tsar's court and how it serendipitously came to involve a wandering, amateur monk.
Originally a bulging, six-hundred page volume under the title “The Political Influence of Rasputin,” this work was only seen by scholars digging through university archives. Literary qualities in its narrative approach led Kilcoyne to abridge, edit, and retitle the material for a broader publication, but a series of setbacks and lack of time delayed this indefinitely. The type-written drafts were kept in a briefcase, half-forgotten in storage until conversations led to its surfacing. The contents of this volume are a blend of these two remaining drafts, complete with full annotations and appendices.

I'm a writer based in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2011 I graduated with a BA in Religious Studies from UNC Asheville, and since then I have been working on a long-term project to unpack, develop and integrate my undergraduate research into a layman's monograph about the religious studies field. It may be framed, in short, as a religious text for humanists. "Ad Absurdum" (vol. I) is now complete and available in paperback. Over the years of crafting and rewriting this book I began publishing the work of both my grandfathers, each of whom had similar research interests and, for separate reasons, were unable to share their insights with the public before passing away. "Rasputin and the End of Empire" is one of these, a literary rendering of Dr. Martin Kilcoyne's unpublished 1961 dissertation on myths versus the real story of Rasputin's political influence. Full preview, PDF, and paperback available now. "The O'Byrne Mill" was a memoir self-published in 1970 by my great-grandmother.
