About the Book
As a photographer Andres Gonzalez is best known for his spontaneous, painterly compositions featuring subjects and scenes he finds while roaming the urban landscape. His approach combines a disciplined work ethic with incidental encounter. Instead of scouting and planning his shooting locations, Gonzalez prefers to wander and let his curiosity and intuition take the lead. He relies on real-time gut feelings as he approaches the objects and environments that steal his gaze. His work emphasizes basic visual elements we often take for granted: color, line, shape, texture, etc. Rarely modifying the scenes and objects he encounters, he employs traditional design principles to find aesthetic arrangements in-camera. By exploiting time and circumstance, Gonzalez elevates the seemingly mundane into art and poetry.
