About the Book
Between 2018 and 2023, I photographed the exhibitions held at the Centro de Arte e Cultura of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation in Évora. There were more than a dozen shows, curated or coordinated by José Alberto Ferreira, then artistic director of the Centre, whose vision and sensitivity shaped both the identity and rhythm of its programming.
My main task was to produce images for the exhibition catalogues. At the same time, and almost spontaneously, I began to focus on a different kind of image: moments of encounter between people and art. Visitors observing, drawing near, photographing, or simply contemplating in silence — among many other ways of seeing art.
This book gathers a selection of those moments. It is a notebook of gazes — a visual testimony to the relationship between the public and artistic creation, capturing those unique instances when art ceases to be merely an object and becomes a shared experience.
