About the Book
This book is dedicated to our grandson, Daniel Alan Harville. Daniel was born June 22, 2010. His birth revealed he was born with a rare disease called Hirschprung’s. This disease attacks the ganglion nerves of the digestive system at in-uteri development, leaving it inoperable. The only cure is transplantation of the small intestine. Within days, it was found that Daniel’s total digestive system was affected by Hirschprung’s disease and considered “Total Colonic Hirschprung’s”. A more complex transplantation would be necessary in order for him to live a full life. Within weeks Daniel under went several life saving surgeries in order for him to maintain life until a transplant was viable.
On May 24, 2011, Daniel was diagnosed with Hepatblastoma, a rare and deadly type of cancer in his liver. Daniel was immediately flown to the University of Nebraska Transplant Center-in order to begin the necessary treatments to keep him alive. Within four days he was placed on the national transplant list. June 3, 2011--four days later, Daniel under went the extremely complex and dangerous transplantation of his small intestine, liver and pancreas. We are extremely pleased to say at the time of this printing, that Daniel is doing well accepting his new organs. There have been several “bumps” in the road to recovery and he is not “out of the woods” as of yet. It is in his family’s heart and prayers that his recovery begins to increase and he will soon be able to return home. This book is in attempt by his family to celebrate Daniel's journey to wellness.
Daniel has quite a following on Facebook and can be found at: Daniel Harville Foundation at that internet location.
