About the Creator
The Island Farmers’ Alliance Society (IFA) is a grassroots organization that is committed to representing the needs of farmers and agriculture on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Founded in 1999, the IFA was formed by of a group of farmers and food advocates who shared a vision to create an Island-wide Agricultural Strategic Plan. As a result of their efforts, in March 1998, over 200 farmers met in Duncan to discuss issues facing Island agriculture. Following the forum, a representative core group of farmers joined together with a common goal of ensuring the long-term viability of Island agriculture and to work together with a united voice under the name of the Island Farmers’ Alliance. Since its inception, the IFA’s dedicated board of volunteers has worked to promote Island agriculture by providing increased visibility of Island products through the “Fresh from the Island” brand name and the “Rooster” logo.
