About the Book
It is very easy to “look” at a scene and not perceive (see) the hidden visual treasures it offers.
In this book, Marty Smith, photographer, tap dance master and aficionado of the performing and visual arts, has assembled a collection of photographs that reflect his vision of a world often overlooked by the casual observer.
His work has been described as “abstract,” but I think that is an oversimplification. Abstract implies creating an image with no factual meaning, no clear focus or subject matter. Marty’s images do focus on specific objects, but in a way that challenges the viewer to rethink their perceptions and visual prejudices.
The title of this book aptly defines the photographer’s aims; that is, asking the viewer to look and see often “taken-for-granted” scenes through the filters of the photographer’s eye and imagination, then captured by his camera.
