The photographs in this book were shot between 2005 and 2009 at Hunter/Jumper Horse Shows throughout Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York.
None of the images were digitally manipulated using computer software and all but one (shown on pp. 39) were acquired using analog (i.e. 35 mm or 120) cameras and various films.
The unusual appearance of many of these images results from a technique called 'cross-processing', where slide film is developed in print film chemicals. This alters the color balance and saturation of the negatives.
The films were then scanned with no color correction and are presented here intact. By combining cross-processing with multiple exposures and using different cameras, I hope to have provided an out-of-the-ordinary view of the horse show ring and its surroundings.
The cameras I employed for this project include a Supersampler, a LOMO Kompakt Automat LCA+RL, a Fisheye 2, a Lubitel 166U, a Soviet Fed 5, and a Sony Cyber-shot 5.0.
