About the Book
From December 30, 2009 through January 24, 2010, I journeyed with 94 other “adventurers” and Cheesemans’ Ecology Safaris to Antarctica, South Georgia Island, and the Falklands. We traveled to truly remote and wild places, traversed the most dangerous body of water on earth, and on landings had to be prepared for high winds, fierce snow storms, and rapid drops of temperature from freezing to 30 degrees lower in a matter of minutes. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter such extreme conditions.
The payoffs for us were close encounters with many species of penguins, seals, whales, and exotic birds, and immersion in land- and seascapes of awesome and often forbidding majesty and beauty. In this book, I share with you some of the amazing sights. I hope they convey many of the emotions I felt during these amazing 26 days.
