This book of poetry in translation and seventy images has a unusual history. When he was seventy the Gujarati poet Adam Ghodiwala was challenged by a member of theriersmovemet.com to write-in-a-day a poem about the environment. He tackled the problem by writing a 'tanha' . This poetic form is made up of 70 mini metrical poems which stand alone but seen in their totality make a longer poem. Adam lives in Bolton and with the help of the poet Siraj Patel it was translated into English.
When presented as a banner it was seen as very much an 'world poem' and as a consequence 70 painters who came from the north of England were invited to take a line and without prior discussion to illustrate it and offer the resulting images for sale. The exhibition and its content is the subject of this book.
