Marcy Wheeler records through her paintings the tears, comfort, anger and surrender that are on the road to connection and family. Model/Family contains paintings done over a twenty year period, and though it is a family of a man , a woman, a boy and a girl, the title refers to the use of family members as models for paintings. The paintings are about the emotional push pull of familial relationships.
Painters are observers.
I spend my life learning to see. I hope to use my eyes in an appreciative, discerning and personal way. I am compelled to paint what I am connected to, what I yearn for, what I understand and what I wish to understand. I was born in Chicago. My father was a graphic artist, my mother was a model and social activist. I now live in California.
