About the Book
THE LAST is the audaciously fierce brainchild of NYC photographer, graphic designer, and Brooklyn native, Tarik Carroll and McKenzie Frye, a multi-disciplined NYC performing artist. This series uses graphic art & photography as a visual hymn to evoke the very personal and quite introspective “lyrics” of artists past and present. Artists that chose a life in art because there was no other choice. Artists that choose to speak through the mediums of lyricism, dance, music, visual art, photography, fashion, etc. because without these mediums they would have no voice. In the past, we have witnessed, enjoyed, and have been both emotionally and spiritually stimulated by great artists of varying disciplines; true pioneers who were seldom acknowledged within their own lifetime and in turn left to spend much of their artistic journeys and careers painstakingly self exploring, searching for validation, and ultimately looking for a place where they could be genuinely understood. THE LAST is a celebration of the popular and dynamic energy that fueled not only the greats, but is currently fueling the next generation of multi-disciplined innovators and artistic tastemakers. And the most awe inspiring fact is...we are simply being ourselves.
The Last. The Truth. The Hope.
