Those who think of the flag ceremony on Topside, Corregidor as being General Douglas MacArthur's media opportunity, are just plain wrong. He was little more than a guest at a christening, a putative father of sorts, perhaps a celebrant, and the rest of the top brass there were our family witnesses. For it was on that day, as our flag rose above us, that we of the 503d PIR, of the 462nd PFABn, and of Company C, 161st PFEng., could begin to define ourselves as "The Rock Regiment."
This book is about the journey of the men of the Rock Regiment, from Australia to the Philippines, in their own words. Drawing upon Paul Whitman's 503d PRCT Heritage Bn. Website - http://503prct.org - it brings together articles written by the men themselves, about themselves. It furnished the inspiration for "CORREGIDOR - THE ROAD BACK", the documentary by the Spyron - AV Manila team of Peter Parsons and Lucky Guillermo, and now takes its place as the acclaimed film's 'in print' companion.
Through the Corregidor Historic Society and, more recently the 503d PRCT Heritage Regiment., Paul presents thirteen publications, all connected in some way with Corregidor and the US Armed Forces in the SWPA during WWII. He started developing the Corregidor.Org website about the 1941-42 siege and the 1945 retaking of Corregidor as a penance for being an insolvency lawyer. Now retired, he has produced ten websites, more than a dozen Military History books, and has co-produced, with Peter Parsons, the documentary of the 1945 retaking of Corregidor - "CORREGIDOR - THE ROAD BACK. He married Rosie in 1980, has three adult children, and hates cats. He lives between two shores, Corregidor and Brisbane, Australia.
