About the Book
peace photography is a collection of hundreds of photos from more than a dozen countries and four continents, being sold to support and promote several small independent non-profit organizations around the world. digital images, prints, notecards, books, and calendars may all be purchased online through our website. 100% of the profits are given directly to these partner organizations.
i started peace photography as a way of supporting and staying connected to the many community development groups i've known or worked with through the years.
i have somehow been privileged enough to work or volunteer with countless amazing groups and people around the world, and i've found that photos are both an amazing way of preserving my own memories, and also an effective way to share my love of the world --and its people-- with others around me.
there is so much beauty, courage, and hope in this world, yet also so much pain, struggle, and oppression. i can't really pretend that photos ever come close to capturing this. but, i do believe that they can remind us of communities outside of our own, and our strange common bond with those whom we don't know, and will perhaps never meet.
one of my favorite song lyrics [from 'a silver mt. zion'] goes like this:
"when the world is sick, can't no one be well
but i dreamt we was all beautiful and strong"
so this project is just a bit of work towards that dream. many thanks for your interest and support.
a special thanks goes out to molly, mark, my parents, family, grandparents, and all these amazing folks i've met along the way, who have changed me forever whether they know it or not.
peace,
eric gruen
