About the Book
Featuring over 100 drawings this book is a retrospective of my sketches from the past year. Scanned from several varied sized sketch books and colour toned for the purpose of this book.
I began with the central idea of 'People I Know, But Never Met' which forms the first 3rd of the book. I came to this phrase through the desire to draw characters that felt very familiar to me, but came from somewhere deep within the ether so to speak. As with all my drawings I tend to start with very little idea of where I am going and most of these characters literally came to me in a sense, however we were never formally introduced.
'Age of Angst' has become an overall theme in my work of late and has crept into most if not all of my imagery. It incapsulates a few things: firstly a sense of individual oddness, weirdness or being misfit: the affect of sudden changes in the interaction with new technology: the social and internal conflicts that arise from such interaction: concepts of being connected and disconnected if not all at one time: and the uneasiness of 'comfortable' living.
For me, these drawings have been a progression from my first book '100 Things on Black' and are an early beginning into my own exploration into my art. They will form a basis for future works which I foresee developing into larger pieces with perhaps more detail and a continually more focused style.
