About

I am an artist and art instructor living in Portland, Oregon.

Originally from a little beach town in Hawai'i called Kailua, I moved to California and graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1992.

My work pairs modern digital photography with the ancient technique of encaustic painting. Beeswax, resin and pigment are layered to produce a deep, translucent surface that captures and reflects light. I often collage other materials into the wax medium, including dried plants, natural fibers, and handmade paper. The translucency of the wax creates layers of information: color, text, rhythm, and texture. The goal is work that calls from across the room, shifting as the viewer draws nearer and the details resolve and reveal themselves, inviting the eye further into the work.

My work can be seen in several galleries in the Pacific Northwest and on Home & Garden TV's urban craft show, "That's Clever!"
