Born in 1938, I started my working career as a meteorologist, becoming a systems analyst for super computers before becoming involved with the design, management and operation of the satellites used for tracking weather and monitoring climate change. In this capacity I established the European agency responsible for these matters, building it into a world-class organisation before my retirement.

Serious sailing started on my retirement, with my round Britain cruise completed just after my 70th birthday. Still happily married after nearly 50 years, Angela and I delight in our two grown up children and four grandchildren, while indulging numerous hobbies.
