Originally from Huntington, West Virginia James Wendell became interested in photography at the adolescent age of 12 after finding his dad’s Polaroid Land camera stuffed in the back of a closet. A few years later in High School he won second place in a university level competition with a photograph documenting his great-grandmothers funeral thus solidifying his love for photography.
Wendell graduated the New England School of Photography in Boston, MA at age 20 in 1998. In 1999 he won 1st place in an A.S.M.P. competition for documenting Boston’s Chinese New Year Festival. In 2007 he was included in two juried group exhibitions and launched his website jameswendell.com. He has shown work in Massachusetts, Florida and New York City. His work was recently published in JPG Magazine and he has recently published his first book eyeblink. James started working for Magnum Photos in 2004 and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
