I was born in St. Louis, Missouri. My poem "Huck's Friend" reflects my childhood, growing up in the south-central part of the city. I celebrate my 60th birthday by publishing this collection of poems I have written over the past three years. I do not see myself as a poet; some say I have the gift of rhyme; I credit this to my extensive reading over the course of my life.
My poems are written about things I have seen. It is not my desire to have others think as I think; I submit these words in the hope that those who read them will use 'critical thought' more in their lives and not follow blindly the direction of others. In my past, I have been argumentative and sophomoric but no longer wish to pursue the debate. I believe people see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear.
