Laurie Doctor’s paintings resonate with that
deep place beyond language, a place that
requires hours spent carefully listening to
nature, the study of early scripts and signs,
paying attention to the voices of ancestors.
Over two years in the making, the
exhibition Wake the Sleeping Birds is a
kind of journalism, a report in oil, thread,
charcoal and wood, of her travels to that
place of dream symbols, and a return,
showing us what she has found.
