I've typically gone through the tough times in life with a Why Me? attitude. Self-pity has been my default setting for so long; I finally decided that I needed to change when life physically made me take a rest stop through a strong period of anxiety. Why Me? Why Not? was born out of that decision, and the realisation that I had just as much right to let out my creativity as anyone else. Why Me? Why Not? is a collection of 50 poems and lyrics about a variety of topics - life, love, nature, society, spirituality and a few random thoughts thrown in for good measure.
I've had a pretty random life. I grew up in a Christian home so spirituality is a big influence in my life, although I have definitely had my ups and downs. Lately I have been doing a lot of reconnecting with those roots outside of what you'd call 'organised religion'. I've done a fair bit of travelling since school finished in 2000 for various reasons - nannying in USA, singing for missions in PNG, working as a music pastor in London, and a tour of the Middle East. Until recently, my main work has been in admin, but late 2013 brought a period of anxiety that forced me to leave my job and focus on regaining my health. I currently live in Sydney AU with my partner Mark, his parents, and our 2 'Wegies', Mundr & Semi. Writing has been a significant therapy during this time, as well as through other tough times in my life. I hope that what I write brings as much joy to others as it has to me, and allows people to take away thoughts that will linger long after the book has been put down.
